Lighten up with Spring Sensations
Spring has always inspired thoughts of fresh beginnings, so it’s the perfect time to launch a new festival in Dalby.
The small but vibrant committee behind Discover Dalby - Spring Sensations is keen to gather the community events currently held during the month under one umbrella to showcase Dalby and the region as THE place to be in Spring, according to chairman Gavin Pontin.
The festival will run from September 3 to 26 starting with a gala opening of the Dalby Spring Art Show which runs throughout September.
“The festival includes the Creekside Markets, Plough Inn Cup races, Dunavants Golf Day, Relay for Life and other events,” says Gavin.
A highlight of the festival will be the new Delicious and DeLIGHTful event - a project of the Dalby Welcoming Committee.
Focused around Myall Creek, this event features a lantern parade, entertainment and international foods from cultures that are strongly represented in Dalby - Indigenous, Philippino, Maori and South African.
Event organiser Beth Wood says in the lead up to the event an organisation called LightnUp will hold lantern making workshops for community organisations over eight days in July. Up to 200 lanterns of various designs themed around friendship will be created and a special Dalby community lantern will take pride of place.
Meanwhile the Discover Dalby - Spring Sensations committee is approaching businesses, farmers, community and sporting groups to be a part of the festival by organising an event, or perhaps re-scheduling an existing event, in September.
“We see this as an opportunity to have an umbrella that advertises what is on in Dalby and share in the excitement,” says Gavin.
Western Downs Regional Council is actively involved, and the festival logo has been designed by Dalby graphic artist Larna Baker.
The local churches will hold a combined service to bless the season as a festival finale on September 26. See www.dalbyspringsensations.com.au
