Celebrating Community - Western Downs Regional Council
A Plan For a Better Dalby
At a time when our communities are growing and evolving to include new faces, new businesses and new cultures, Dalby has embraced change and planned a number of exciting developments and events to celebrate all that this dynamic region has to offer.
Liveability and the provision of services and facilities in the areas of health, education, sport and recreation are at the top of the list and have been encompassed into Council’s ‘Western Downs 2050’ plan. Community consultation and feedback from key stakeholders and industry have provided the navigation tools to plan for a better future for Dalby.
Place of Welcome
The community-driven Welcoming Community Group aims to ensure that Dalby is recognised as being an all-embracing and friendly place to live and visit. The strategy incorporates planning for aesthetic improvements to the town entrances and an exciting development proposition for revitalising Dalby’s iconic Myall Creek. The master plan concept was made possible through support from Queensland Gas Company. Another key part of the strategy includes events and activities that ensure old and new residents feel welcome and integrated into the community. All local groups have been asked to be involved on the committee so that diverse needs are represented and ownership remains with the people of Dalby.
“Change and growth does have its challenges, but by making positive steps to improve our local facilities and infrastructure – living in Dalby just keeps getting better,” says Cr Carolyn Tillman.
Council’s first significant community project, the Myall Youth and Community Network Centre is due for completion in August.
Embracing Diversity
September is shaping up to be an exciting month in Dalby with the planned Discover Dalby Spring Sensations Festival (see story pg 7). As part of the event, the Welcoming Community Group will host the Dalby Delicious and DeLIGHTful celebration on 18 September. Sumptuous food and lively entertainment will be themed around the emerging cultures now represented in Dalby.
