THE DALBY BIO-REFINERY
Construction of the Dalby Bio-Refinery is now complete, with startup of the plant in December 2008. Silos and grain digesters are now appearing on the skyline of the site on the Jandowae road, some 8 kilometres from the town centre. Tthe plant will produce over 80 million litres of ethanol per year, from 200,000 tonnes of sorghum.
The new Dalby ethanol plant will provide an important new market for sorghum in the region.
Sorghum production in southern Queensland has reached record levels this year, with over 2 million tonnes likely to be harvested by the end of the season.
The plant will also boost employment in Dalby, with 35 employees at the plant, which will also generate some additional support jobs and further industry opportunities from the byproducts of the plant. The sorghum grain residue is a valuable high protein grain, which may be converted into feed supplements.
Demand for ethanol is increasing as motorists find E10 petrol blends more economical, especially for vehicles which require premium octane fuel. Fore more information see www.dalbybiorefinery.com.au
