Food for the Soul

When long-time Dalby cafe owner and acclaimed homestyle cook, Marie Walton, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in early 2007, she bravely faced the harsh and cruel reality of the rapid degenerative nature of the disease. Sadly, just 15 months later Marie passed away in April 2008.
Marie found strength and joy in the wonderful memories of sharing food with family and friends. Marie’s family rallied around her and through the collection of treasured recipes, tried and tested, her legacy lives on. The idea to publish a lifetime’s work was realised with the production of Marie’s Kitchen. This beautifully presented collation of recipes is peppered with tips and advice to suit cooks of all ages and levels of experience. It also features lino artwork lovingly hand-crafted by her family.
“I open the pages of the book and I am there. I am in the kitchen having a laugh with Mum; she is at the oven, pulling out a pavlova, with another half a dozen freshly made and sitting on the bench,”recalls Gavin Walton fondly.
“Mum spent her last days compiling, checking and correcting hundreds of recipes and we are all very proud of her efforts.”
