Ageing in Style

Dalby’s Karingal Residential Aged Care Facility is setting a new benchmark in high-quality care and modern comforts.

Dalby Health Director of Nursing Colleen Rasmussen said the facility, completed in 2006, was designed around the needs of residents and their families.

“We were determined to move away from the old hospital-style nursing home and instead create an environment that was welcoming and homely.”

The result is an impressive layout, with a large living area suitable for social functions, concerts and church services, while also offering lounge area retreats and alcoves to give residents and their families privacy during visits.

It caters for up to 80 residents, with private rooms and no more than two sharing a bathroom.  There are even married living quarters available.

With full time recreational coordinators, there are many one-on-one and group activities to keep residents active and entertained – including reading, games, craft, music, shopping trips and social outings. There’s even an onsite hair dressing salon.

A dedicated team of around 30 volunteers provide invaluable support by spending time with residents and helping with activities.

The $15m Karingal rebuild, funded by the Queensland Government, involved a number of local contractors.

Local firm, Condamine Electric Company did all the electrical work, providing residents with modern conveniences from climate-control split system air-conditioning, automatic doors, a sophisticated back-up generator system and access to pay TV in every room.

Volunteers and donations of craft supplies are always welcome. Call Colleen on 4669 0542.
