Dalby’s blooming lovely!
The birds are singing and the flowers are blooming. Spring is in the air, so why not celebrate by exploring the vast array of gardens on display during Dalby’s Spring Garden Week.
Held from September 22-30, the event has become a highlight on the garden enthusiast’s calendar, attracting visitors from far and wide to experience what Dalby gardeners have to offer.
Dalby Beautification Association Promotions Officer Rob Parsons said more than 70 entrants participate in the competition each year, with anything from a potted plant displays, feature trees and wheelbarrow gardens to large and acreage gardens.
Even business premises and children’s gardens (kindergartens and daycare centres) have an opportunity to enter.
Brian Sams, WIN TV celebrity gardener and principal horticultural lecturer at the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE, will have the challenge of judging the entries on Monday September 10.
Winners are announced at the awards night on Monday September 17. As part of the celebrations, the Dalby Beautification Association will be raffling a 5000-litre rainwater tank generously donated by Clark Tanks, with the winning entry drawn at the awards night.
Rob said Dalby’s Spring Garden Week was organised to coincide with the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. A free bus will run from Toowoomba during the week to encourage Carnival of Flowers visitors to venture an hour further west to enjoy Dalby.
Sponsors include Queensland Events, Dalby Town Council, Clark Tanks, Dalby Newspapers and a number of other local supporters.
If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to explore Dalby’s gardens, mark your diary for Spring Garden Week. You’ll be delighted by the amazing colour and vibrancy, talent and creativity on display.
