Steeped in tradition and set to the backdrop of crisp autumn skies, the Dalby Amateur Picnic Race Day has featured prominently on both racing and social calendars for almost a century.
Each Labour Day weekend, Bunya Park is awash with an eclectic mix of race-goers. While it’s a must amongst locals, a large contingent of visitors have also made the event a yearly ritual.
The ‘Picnics’ have benefited from the country racing resurgence that has dominated race meets in recent years.
“Last year 3500 people attended the day. We are expecting a similar number again this year,” said Picnic Races Committee Secretary Brittany Perkins-Ehrich.
A true showcase of country racing, the day will include a six race program with a lucrative prize pool of $48,000, and a Calcutta held between races four and five.
Away from the track, fashion will be high on the agenda as chic and cutting-edge race-goers showcase autumn race wear and vie for a multitude of prizes.
An attractive corporate package is once again available which includes seating under the marquee, a fully catered buffet and drink tickets.
As racing wraps up and nightfall decends, entertainment will continue under the marquee with Brisbane band “Three Days Off”.
Gates open at 12.30pm with general admission $25.00. Tickets can be pre-purchased from Eloquence at 115 Cunningham St or Dalby Tile & Glass at 16 Eileen St. Tables of 10 may also be pre-purchased. The event is strictly 18+ and ID will be required.
From serious punters to socialites, the Dalby Picnic Race Day promises racing pleasure for all in 2010.
