Welcoming New Residents
The Dalby Visitor Centre is open seven days a week thanks to the dedicated service of some 40 local volunteers. “We exist thanks to our volunteers – some who have been with the centre since the 1980s,” says Merry Higgins, Centre Supervisor.
“Many Dalby residents and businesses may be aware we offer information services to visitors, but some may not be aware of the services we offer to new residents with welcome packs and promotional opportunities for local businesses,” says Merry.
Local businesses are encouraged to promote their products and services through the centre to visitors and new residents in a bid to encourage people to stay longer and spend more. Locally produced goods are also available for purchase.
“You would be amazed at what we get asked for. Anything from where do I buy groceries or coffee to where do I get tyres and repairs for windscreens. We’re about spreading the economic benefit through the region, referring visitors to attractions throughout the Western Downs so we can increase yield and encourage repeat business. Visitors are particularly interested in farming and learning more about it”.
The centre’s location in Thomas Jack Park is strongly linked to the town’s history. It was named as a tribute to Thomas Jack, the Mayor of Dalby for 22 years who played a leading role in the development of Dalby. Operating hours are Monday – Saturday 9am – 4.30pm and Sunday 9 – 11am. |
