Ever Onwards

On the walls adorning Principal Mona Anau’s office are bright coloured kites created by the children proclaiming “Always do your best – Fly like a kite.”  Immediately you sense that Dalby State School is a happy place where children are encouraged to strive.

“It’s a learning journey,” says Mona. “The School Motto ‘Ever Onwards’ really symbolises how we focus on moving the children forward and supporting them so that every child succeeds.”

Dalby State has been at the hub of the Dalby community for 150 years. Originally a slab hut with around 50 students, it is the fourth oldest school in Queensland.

Today’s 520 students enjoy a family atmosphere, where staff genuinely care and go out of their way for the children.
Monday morning ‘Meet and Greets’ give teachers an opportunity to reward students for positive behaviour and taking pride in their uniform, and to talk about social skills, manners and respect in a fun way.

The school offers excellent facilities and play areas, technology, learning support, music, sports, performing arts, and languages.
“And it’s all underpinned by a quality education delivered through innovative programs and creating an intentionally inviting learning environment.”

But Mona stresses that it’s relationships that really count. “The key to success at our school is the 3 Rs – relationships, relationships and relationships. A child doesn’t care about how much a teacher knows, but wants to know that the teacher cares.  Most importantly we value each individual student.”
