Building a bright future

The style and functionality of Dalby’s newer commercial buildings demonstrates the outstanding work of one local building firm.

Carmichael Builders has completed many of the town’s major commercial building projects and developed a strong reputation for delivering on client expectations.

Named Business of the Year at Dalby’s 2005 Business Excellence Awards, this locally-owned, family-operated business is taking an active role in developing the town while expanding its operations state-wide.

Head office manager Tony Carmichael believes the firm’s success can be attributed to an honest approach and dependable service.

“Our company has over 70 highly trained plumbers, concreters, cabinetmakers, fabrication engineers, carpenters and apprentices.

“Having a team of quality tradespeople gives our clients confidence that the job will be done right. And because we employ our own team we can be more competitive on price.”

The company is serviced by two independently run subsidiary businesses, Dalby Kitchens and Carmichael Steel, that supply to owner-builders and general contractors.

Husband and wife team Lee and Lyn Carmichael started the Dalby business in the early 1980s developing a name for quality and reliability.

Sons Tony, John and Glen Carmichael joined in the management role in 2004 with a clear objective to double the size of the business.

They achieved their goal and the business now boasts an annual turnover of $33 million with outlets in Brisbane, Mackay, Toowoomba as well as the Dalby head office.

But despite the expansion, the firm remains committed to supporting the Dalby community and employing local people.

“Country towns thrive on participation which includes the business community. We work for people who can see growth and build facilities that help the town grow.”
