The recently opened Bead Studio offers a selection of stylish ready-made fashion jewellery and also runs do-it-yourself workshops for keen hobbyists.

Clients can purchase the eye-catching jewellery on display or request custom-made pieces to meet their individual needs.

The full range of accessories includes earrings, necklaces, bracelets, bangles, hair accessories, brooches, belts and handbags.

For those wishing to create their own, there is a wide range of high quality beads in ceramic, wood, glass and shell, as well as a selection of striking fresh water pearls and all the tools needed to complete the task.

Bead Studio proprietor Margaret Troe recently retired from her position as a pharmacy assistant and decided to make a business out of her long-time leisure pursuit.

Margaret describes the process of handcrafting fashion jewellery as 'therapeutic, relaxing and rewarding'.

"The sense of achievement you get out of making something special is wonderful."

People are invited to join in fortnightly workshops, run by experienced designer Trish Van Dorssen, or organise their own groups and negotiate a suitable class time.

Margaret says, "It's not hard to learn and we're very happy to show people how it's done.

"They can usually make a couple of pieces the very first time and part of the appeal is being able to say, 'I actually made that'."

Added appeal lies in knowing that each piece is unique and that the possibilities for creating fabulous jewellery are endless.

"No two pieces are exactly alike and you can design jewellery to match your wardrobe.

"They can be as simple or intriguing as you want. Your imagination is the only limitation."
