While Dalby may not seem like the home of big business many high profile companies understand its benefits as a location for head office.
Carmichael Builders is one company that started in Dalby and now retains it as a base for State-wide operations.
Directing manager Lee Carmichael says there are good reasons for making that choice.
"The town is close to major centres and transport corridors, offers value for money and is a great place to live and do business."
With branches in Toowoomba, Brisbane and soon Mackay, the company carries out extensive building works across the State while remaining strongly committed to the local area.
All administration and estimating is carried out at main office and the company also has its own joinery and steel fabrication works in Dalby.
Around 40 staff are employed on a permanent basis with additional sub-contractors employed throughout central and southern Queensland.
Carmichael Builders is a family success story that started with husband and wife team Lee and Lyn Carmichael back in the early 1980s and has expanded to become a major company incorporating three of their five sons.
Tony Carmichael runs the administration in Dalby while John heads the Toowoomba office and workstation.
After "chipping away at the Brisbane market" over the past year, Glen Carmichael has relocated to Brisbane to extend the business even further.
The projects are big-budget with recent works ranging from schools and cultural centres to an indoor bowling alley, hi-tech building and sports complex.
The company has established a good name in Queensland's western regions with projects such as the Charleville Cosmos Centre and the Taroom Cultural Centre.
"We've worked in distant places such as Thargomindah, Mackay, Mt Isa, Blackall, Longreach, Toowoomba and Brisbane,"
And with around 80 per cent of the company's project revenue making its way back into the local economy, that's good news for Dalby. |
