Sign up for quality education
There’s no need to look further than Dalby to find quality education that delivers strong academic, sporting and cultural outcomes.
Enrolments for Prep and Year 8 in 2011 are now open for Our Lady of the Southern Cross College (OLSCC) – a local school proving that excellence in learning is close to home.
OLSCC principal John Hegarty says the College is firm in its commitment to quality evidenced by data that places the school at the high end of national performance standards.
“All our data for national and state assessment indicates the school is performing at a high level. Year 12 outcomes are consistently strong and comparable to similar independent schools around the State.”
He attributes much of this success to the College’s well qualified and dedicated staff together with a commitment to curriculum development, providing a seamless process of learning from Prep to Year 12.
“Learning is a continuous process leading up to QCS (Queensland Core Skills) testing and Year 12 results, and this is the way we approach our curriculum. The way we talk about things, present it, develop it - it’s all aligned.
“Professional development opportunities are essential to support this key learning approach (staff receive extensive in-service training) and educational outcomes are going from strength to strength,” he said.
The college’s academic programs are aided by advanced technology and facilities are constantly being upgraded to keep pace with the demands of modern learning.
Interactive white boards, lap top computers and a whole-campus wireless network are available to the students while $3.2 million is being spent to provide a large new library, fully enclosed multipurpose hall and completely remodelled Home Economics facilities.
College co-curricular activities are quite extensive and there is plenty of opportunity for students to get involved in public speaking, debating or challenging competitions such as Optiminds.
The College offers a range of popular sports including golf and tennis while musically talented students can join the band or choral program.
“We encourage all students to be active participants,” John Hegarty said.
The College acknowledges that student learning flourishes in a caring, supportive environment and embraces the Christian values of respect, forgiveness and reconciliation.
“We accept people from all faiths and encourage students to seek out and deepen their beliefs within their family faith tradition.”
