Into Full Swing
It is a crisp summer morning. The soft early light illuminates the meticulous course as the birdlife make their morning song. The golfer sets the tee, places the ball, and executes a near-perfect swing.
The golfer is hooked, not only on beating the little white ball, but the experience of playing on Dalby’s first-class course.
“It is an exciting time for our club, we have one of the best courses west of the [Great] Divide,” says President Kev Roberts. “The way I see it is like this, we are strapped into the dragcar - the engine is full throttle, we just have to take our foot off the brake and get ready for the ride,” grins Kev.
With the recent addition of the highly regarded golf pro, Heath Garvey, things are looking bright for the future of the Dalby Golf Club. “We are going to implement a one, five and ten year plan to take the club forward,” says Kev.
Already a surge in junior golfer participation is the talk of the town, with up to 40 children turning up for free lessons on a Saturday morning. “The great thing about golf is that it can be enjoyed by all ages,” Heath says enthusiastically. Junior golf coaching is offered on Tuesday from 4-5pm and Saturday 8am-8.45am for children aged 7 to 17 years.
For adults, competition games are held on Wednesday morning (including an early tee-off option for those heading to work), Thursday, Friday as well as Saturday and Sunday. The ladies 18 hole competition takes place on Thursday mornings.
But there’s more to the Dalby Golf Club than just golf, with the club house a popular choice for functions, events, weddings and conferences, as well as corporate sponsorship events. Call to find out how you can get into the swing of things this summer!
Club welcomes new golf pro
No stranger to the district, Heath Garvey spent the first 20 years of his life in Miles. The experienced golf pro is thrilled to now call Dalby home, together with his wife Rebecca (who is expecting their second child) and two year old daughter, Ella. “I absolutely love country life,” admits Heath. “When the opportunity came up to move back out this way, we jumped at the chance and haven’t looked back. Dalby is a great place. ”
After nearly six years working at Toowoomba City Golf Club as the Pro Shop manager and head coaching professional, Heath brings a wealth of experience to the Dalby Golf Club. But it is his enthusiasm for the game that sets him apart. “Young people are the future of the game. I love working with the juniors – soon you’ll see that many [juniors] on the fairway we’ll be tripping over them!”
One-on-one tuition is offered. Contact Heath at the Dalby Golf Club Pro Shop for full details. |
