Making a Smart Move

Take a workplace that displays genuine values of 'looking out for your team mates', add in a good dose of ambition, and support it with the latest technology and you get a business that’s really going places.
Condamine Electric Company, under the stewardship of Managing Director Gavin Walton, has taken its business to new heights with the installation of GPS navigation and tracking equipment into every one of its 25 vehicles.
The GPS is not just a soothing voice that directs you to a destination; CEC is taking the technology to the next level by linking it to new job scheduling software and their existing quality, safety and environmental systems.
Safety, quality and efficiency are key drivers behind the move says CEC project manager Alistair Green.
“The new system will track when vehicles arrive at a job and feed the start time into our computer system. It will remind drivers to perform safety checks and will flash up information for their next job.
“The vehicles are being fitted with gyro sensors, so if a vehicle breaks or stops suddenly the office is alerted of a possible accident. The system shows us where they are at any time, so when our guys are out on a jobsite and don’t come back to their programmed ‘home zone’ at the expected time, we can give them a call and check if they’re ok.”
CEC is also gearing up with computer tablets that can be taken on site to record jobs and look up work methods, instead of filling out forms and lugging around big folders of paperwork. “It’s more streamlined and accessible,” says Alistair.
“Our strategic plan is to grow, and to grow you need to improve your systems using robust technology.”
