Game, Set and Match to Dalby Tennis Club

A resurgence in the popularity of tennis in Australia has the Dalby Tennis Club excited for the future, with their game only getting better as they serve up improved facilities to rally new members and entice old ones back to the court this year. The Dalby and District Tennis Association recently implemented a staged strategic plan for the redevelopment of the 54-year-old centre on the corner of Owen and Drayton Streets in Dalby. Upcoming projects include installing new court lighting, painting the exterior of the club house and progressively upgrading all of the court surfaces.

President of the Association Peter Shannon explains that the redevelopment aims to enhance player satisfaction and promote family participation while extending the appeal of the venue.“Tennis is one of the few sports that cater for both individual and team players, and one that people of all ages can enjoy,” said Peter.

“As the courts are available throughout the day as well as before and after school or work, the whole family can play together, have fun and keep fit without the inconvenience of restricted hours and extensive time commitments.” The club is a valued community resource with a healthy membership base which is expected to increase when new turf is laid on three of the 13 courts in Stage 1 of the redevelopment.

This initial $60,000 project funded by the Association will see colourful TigerTurf (synthetic grass) laid over the existing rebound surface on the three highway-facing courts. This renovation will allow a choice between the older-style hard courts and a softer, slower and safer playing surface for both amateur and experienced players.
Whether you’re a beginner or simply eager to get back into the swing of tennis, club coach Ben Campbell will help you master your technique. Ben is a professional, approachable and fully certified Tennis Coach of Australia who runs private and group lessons for adult and junior players.

This year Ben is injecting new energy into the club by reintroducing inter-town competitions between Dalby, Chinchilla and Kingaroy (other towns will be approached for inclusion) and encouraging up-and-coming young players to compete in the Queensland Junior Masters Series.

Players of all ages and stages are invited to attend evening social fixtures held throughout the week for ladies, men, mixed teams and juniors. Annual club membership is now due and includes registration with Tennis Queensland (required for tournaments and competitions), player insurance and discounts on private lessons and court hire charges. Membership fees are $65.00 for adults, $40.00 for juniors and $150.00 for families.
