Dalby Picnic Races

Celebrate Dalby’s picnic racing tradition

The Dalby Picnic Race Day is a celebrated racing tradition on the Downs that remains as popular today as when it began almost a century ago.

Recognised as one of country Queensland’s premier race meets, it delivers first-class racing with a regional flavour. It’s an attractive mix that draws thousands to Bunya Park Racecourse each year.

Big industry players, such as major sponsor Australian Agricultural Company, lend their support to the event ensuring attractive prize money for the winners. This year a prizepool of $55,000, including QRSE and trophies, is on offer for the seven-race program and race-goers can expect to see competitive racing.

In true racing style, fashion is a feature of the day with prizes for the best dressed man and woman in the fashions on the field and celebrities will be invited to have their say on the winning outfits.

The Dalby Amateur Picnic Race Club is again offering an attractive corporate package, where table sponsors will enjoy AACo’s premium ‘1824’ beef, as well as award-winning Jimbour Station wines, beside the racetrack.

The package includes two tickets to the special pre-race function at Jimbour House on the Saturday night with a limited number of tickets also available separately. The evening event features a silent auction in aid of a selected charity – last year’s auction raised $12,000 for the Royal Flying Doctors Service (Qld).

Non-corporate sponsors can pre-purchase a table of 10 for the picnic race day to ensure a place under the marquee.

Gates open from 10am on Sunday April 30 and the excitement of the Calcutta gets underway at 11am before the racing starts at 12.25pm.

Start planning now to take part in this great Dalby tradition.
