Creating golden opportunities

For many small businesses, finding and managing apprentices and trainees can be very challenging.

Non-profit community-based organisation Golden West Employment Solutions can take the stress away by matching the right apprentice or trainee with the right business, and working with both parties to keep the partnership strong and effective.

Local Training and Employment Coordinator Grant Schmidt says while business owners understand the importance of looking after employees’ training needs, they find the paperwork and other requirements very time consuming.

“We offer businesses the opportunity to have dedicated apprentices and trainees on their team without the added hassle.  We look after all the administration, training, payroll and even do regular site visits to keep up the employees’ motivation.”

Apprenticeships and traineeships are available for people of all ages and backgrounds in a wide range of industries from mechanical to hairdressing.

He said young jobseekers should consider a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship.

“Many face a tug-of-war between wanting to leave school to get a trade or stay and finish their schooling.  We tailor school-based apprenticeships and traineeships to get them started in a career while still completing year 12 and even getting an OP if they wish.”

So whether you’re a jobseeker or an employer, visit Golden West at their great new location on the corner of Cunningham and Roche Streets and find out what opportunities lie ahead.
